The launching of the afore-mentioned Oireachtas TV will mark a new phase in the broadcasting of political affairs in Ireland, which began with the televising of proceedings of the Houses of the Irish Parliament, the Dáil and the Seanad, in 1990, and the Committee Rooms in 1993 [ [http://www.irlgov.ie/oireachtas/leaflet/tv.html Parliamentary Televising ] ] .
The channel will provide for coverage of the Houses of the
Oireachtas and the programming of other world parliaments. It may be operated by the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission though that has to be finally determined in the passed Broadcasting Bill 2008. It is expected on the Irish DTT service in 2009 and on cable and satellite platforms, both in Ireland and abroad thereafter.Footnotes
