Vanuatu Republican Party

The Vanuatu Republican Party/Parti Républican de Vanuatu is a political party in Vanuatu. At the last legislative elections, 1 September 2008, the party won 7 out of 52 seats. It's leader is Maxime Carlot Korman, who was previously a member of the Union of Moderate Parties and had served as Prime Minister of Vanuatu while a member of the UMP. Korman and the Republican Party are part of the coalition government led by Ham Lini's National United Party, and Korman serves in the cabinet as minister of lands.

Corman left the UMP in the late 1990s after his rival Serge Vohor won a leadership struggle. At the July 6, 2004 elections, the party won 4 of the 52 seats. At the 2008 elections, the Republicans gained 3 seats and became as strong as the UMP, which had been the dominant party in the French-speaking community.
