1965 VFL Grand Final

1965 VFL Grand Final

The 1965 VFL Grand Final took place on September 25, 1965 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground between VFL clubs Essendon and St Kilda.

St Kilda were minor premiers for the first time in their history and after beating Collingwood by a point in the Semi Final found themselves competing in just their second ever Grand Final and first since 1913, which they lost to Fitzroy. Essendon on the other hand were attempting to win premiership number 12, the most recent of those coming three years prior.

The game was one sided throughout with Essendon ending up winners by 35 points. Ted Fordham kicked seven goals for the premiers.
