Amnon Niv

Amnon Niv, (Hebrew: אמנון ניב), a notable Israeli architect and urban designer. Served as the chief architect for the Nuclear Research center in the Negev and as City Engineer (Chief of planning) of Jerusalem. Together with Amnon Schwartz, he designed the tallest building in Israel.

Biography

Born in Haifa, Niv graduated architecural studies of the Technion institute in 1955. Afterwards he was delegated from Israel for few years, serving several designer roles.Between 1958 and 1963 served as the chief architect for the Nuclear Research center in the Negev.

During the late 60's, together with Architect Rafael Raifer, Niv designed the industrial quarter in Tel Aviv dubbed "Manshiya", the name of the old quarter in which it is located . The plan was partially completed. Later, together with Architect Schwartz, designed the Etzel Museum for which he was awarded the (Rokach Prize).

City Engineer of Jerusalem

On 1977, Teddy Kollek, then mayor of Jerusalem, asked Niv to join as the City Engineer of Jerusalem. In order to be able to design the new municipality Niv arranged a 3D model of Jerusalem which is being used ever since. During his 11 years in this position, Niv main effort was on the development of the three historical corridors to and from Jerusalem.

Skyscrapers

On 1988, Niv returned to his private office where he specializes in skyscrapers. Moshe Aviv Tower - the tallest building in Israel - is one of the masterpieces which were designed by Niv and Schwartz.
