A highly fashionable football club

F.C. Fossombrone is an Italian football club located in Fossombrone, Italy. Dirk Bikkembergs, the Belgian fashion designer, sought to immerse himself more and more in the reality of the football life, and realised that the answer lay literally next door to the manufacturing site: the home ground of the local football team F.C. Fossombrone. The ball got really rolling when the Brand re-launched it in the Italian amateur championship in 2005. Dirk started using the team as his laboratory for styling and fabric technology. From couture jackets to high-performance underwear, all his designs are now tested and promoted by football players. The Dirk Bikkembergs Group’s sponsorship of the team, now re-christened F.C. Bikkembergs Fossombrone, involved not only investment to bring in fresh talent, but also a revamp of their entire image. The Bikkembergs Sport football team gear saw the light, with everything pointing to a new type of apparel which would integrate Dirk's unique approach to fashion into high-performance apparel.

History

F.C. Fossombrone was founded in 1949 when a group of friends, brought together by their love of football, founded a club that only played the game, nothing else. Under the manager De Silverio, Fossombrone achieved prominence in the regional competitions, but was never recognized with a promotion to Serie D. Years later, under Marcello Bonci, who led the club for twenty years, Fossombrone began to win awards, including the Italian Amateur Cup. Towards 1990, the chairmans Nardini and Tamburini expanded the club's activities to the youth sector, which provided a channel into the amateur leagues. The club is now managed by Mosè Mughetti, and since 2005/2006 has a big sponser - the Dirk Bikkembergs Group, who has organized the team and brought in new strategies and a new style.

In the 2006-07 season, under Gabriele Morganti, new players were attracted, such as the Argentinians Piaggio and Baratteri, the ex Napolitan player Vezzosi and others with a professional background like the Vitali brothers, Stefanelli, Cossa and Flavoni. Fossombrone made it quite far into the Coppa Italia, being stopped by Piano San Lazzaro in the regional semi-finals, while in the championship, the club came within one point of the leader, barely missing promotion. After finishing second, Fossombrone headed to the playoffs, to meet with San Lazzaro again. However, this time, Fossombrone won and headed to the regional semi-finals against Torgiano, the winner of the Umbria region. After tying in Umbria, the "bianco-azzuri" were thumped at home, ending their Serie D hopes.
The 2007/2008 season started off with a renewed strategy and a younger team. When the team got to the twelfth place, a new trainer, Mirko Omiccioli, stepped in and opened the door to a series of victories. He took the team to the second place and to the finals of the Coppa Italia, where it won from the leader of the championship.
In the 2008/2009 season, the team took off under a lucky star. Four victories and two draws resulted in the top position of Fossombrone after six days of competition.

Colours and badge

F.C. Fossombrone has always had the classic blue and white color uniforms with strips. However, since the arrival of the Dirk Bikkembergs Group, the kits have changed. The home jerseys are now white with blue swirls, while the away is black with a butterfly pattern. He has also changed the after-game look, discarding the traditional tie and coat for jeans and tracksuit-like leather jacket. This portrays Fossombrone more as the young team that they are, and Bikkembergs uses the squad to try out his latest designs in sportswear.
