László Antal (
Szob ,Hungary ,25 June 1930 –USA /Germany January 1993 ) was a Hungarian linguist, structuralist,Doctor of Science (1981), Professor ofLinguistics . He was considered as the sole representative of structural linguistics in America inHungary . He adapted Amarican structuralism toHungarian language . He was a "Lone Wolf " in Hungarian linguistics.Life
In 1962 he rewarded Ford Scholarship to the
United States in theacademic year s of 1964-1965. He was aVisiting Professor inBerlin between 1981 & 1986. He leftHungary first forGermany then for theUSA in 1985 when he was just appointed to the Head ofGeneral Linguistics Department inELTE inBudapest . He settled inManassas ,Virginia . He was a Professor in theForeign Service Institute . He was an advisor at theJamestown Foundation . He died ofheart attack in 1993. He spoke several languages such as English, German, Russian, French, Albanian,Arabic , Indonesian fluently.elected Works
