USC&GS Thomas R. Gedney

The USC&GS "Thomas R. Gedney" was a ship of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey named for Thomas R. Gedney. She was a composite wood and iron steamship built by C. H. Decameter at New York, in 1875 at a cost of $63,400. She also carried a schooner rig. She served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, spending most of her time in Alaska though, between 1876 and 1877, 1879 and 1888 and from 1881 to 1884. She was briefly commanded in 1879 by future rear admiral Uriel Sebree.
