The USC&GS "Thomas R. Gedney" was a ship of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey named for
Thomas R. Gedney . She was a composite wood and ironsteamship built by C. H. Decameter atNew York , in 1875 at a cost of $63,400. She also carried aschooner rig. She served in both theAtlantic andPacific Oceans, spending most of her time inAlaska though, between 1876 and 1877, 1879 and 1888 and from 1881 to 1884. She was briefly commanded in 1879 by future rear admiralUriel Sebree .References
