Sarian Grevelle

Sarian Grevelle (born 20 March 1953 in Davyhulme, Manchester) is a British mezzo-soprano with a wide repertoire, specialising in Verdi roles.

Biography

Early life and education

Brought up in an Anglo-Welsh musical family in Salford, she attended Eccles Grammar School and went on to teacher training at Totley-Thornbridge College of Education, Sheffield.

Career

Whilst teaching infants full time, she was a member of the choir of St Ann's Church, Manchester, studying singing at evening classes and performing with local madrigal and amateur operatic groups.

Having been a soprano, she studied with John Cameron, became a mezzo and made her professional debut with Opera North in "Boris Godunov" in 1989. In 1991, she joined the chorus of the Royal Opera, London. The following year, she recorded the role of Azucena ("Il Trovatore") for European Chamber Opera (ASV CD DCS255). She left Royal Opera House in 1998 and returned to school teaching while continuing to do concert work throughout the country.

In recent years, she has combined her two professions as a vocal consultant, with international clients.

Marriage and children

In 2005 she married the British naval historian Professor Eric Grove.
