Lakeland Union High School (LUHS) is the area high school located in Minocqua, Wisconsin. LUHS students come from the local grade schools (alphabetically):
* Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Grade School (Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin)
* Lac du Flambeau Grade School (Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin)
* Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk Grade School (Minocqua, Wisconsin)
* North Lakeland Grade School (Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin)
* Trinity Lutheran Day School (Minocqua, Wisconsin)

The school district is roughly 820 square miles, one of the largest in the Upper Midwest, and the student body is around 950, but is declining in recent years.

"Union" High School

LUHS is unique in that it is a 'union high school'. A union high school is one that has its own independent district and school board, which make decisions for that one school alone. The grade schools in the Lakeland area are considered 'feeder' schools, as each grade school listed above also has its own independent district and school board. History of LUHS

LUHS opened in 1957 as a consolidation of Arbor Vitae-Woodruff High School and Minocqua High School. The consolidation was in effort to unify the area school districts into one high school, as two were not needed.

Racial Tension

Great strides have been made at Lakeland Union to ease the long standing feeling of racial divide between Native American students from the Lac Du Flambeau Indian Reservation and the White population. Initiatives such as ILI have been working to spread cultural awareness between the two groups. Violence between the groups has waned in recent years, after violent clashes in 1996.
