Medical District, Augusta

The Augusta Medical District (AMD) is a special-use zoning district located in Augusta, Georgia, between Downtown and Summerville. The district is bounded to the north by Walton Way, to the east by R.A. Dent Boulevard, to the west by Heard Avenue, and to the south by Wrightsboro Road. Public housing within the area will be torn down so it will allow the Medical College of Georgia to expand.

Impact

The Augusta Medical District employs more than 25,000 medical professionals and has a local economic impact of US$2 billion. [ [http://www.augustatommorow.com/common/content.asp?CONTENT=711] ] This makes it one of the largest and advanced medical districts in the country and by far the most in the South. By many residents of the South and local residents, the Augusta Medical District has been called The Medical District of the South and Everybody's Neighborhood.
