Charles Robert Claxton

Charles Robert Claxton (1903 - 1992) was the fourth Suffragan Bishop of Warrington [ The Times, Tuesday, Apr 02, 1946; pg. 6; Issue 50416; col G "Ecclesiastical News Consecration of the BISHOP OF WARRINGTON" ] later translated to the See of Blackburn [The Times, Tuesday, Jun 21, 1960; pg. 12; Issue 54803; col D "Two New Bishops Nominated Bath And Wells And Blackburn"] . Born on 16 November 1903 and educated at Queens' College, Cambridge [“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] , he was ordained in 1928 and began his career with London Curacies before becoming Vicar of Holy Trinity Bristol in 1933. From there he rose rapidly being successively Chaplain to the Bishop of Bristol, Suffragan Bishop of Warrington and finally diocesan bishop of Blackburn. During his long retirement he was an honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Exeter and died on 7 March 1992.
