North Philipsburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 697 at the 2000 census.

Geography

North Philipsburg is located at 40°54′26″N 78°12′32″W / 40.90722°N 78.20889°W / 40.90722; -78.20889 (40.907342, -78.208782)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 697 people, 257 households, and 161 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 945.6 people per square mile (363.7/km²). There were 285 housing units at an average density of 386.6/sq mi (148.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 99.86% White, and 0.14% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population.

There were 257 households out of which 21.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 33.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 64.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 64.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $29,940, and the median income for a family was $34,896. Males had a median income of $26,875 versus $17,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,984. About 10.1% of families and 14.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 33.7% of those under age 18 and 13.9% of those age 65 or over.
