The Raider Cast

The Raider Cast

Launched in 2005, the Raider Cast is a weekly podcast dedicated to the Oakland Raiders. It bills itself as the number one podcast of the Silver and Black. It airs every Thursday and 8:00 p.m. Pacific time on TPS Raido.net [ [http://www.theraidercast.com/ The RaiderCast ] ] . It has aired over 150 episodes. During the shows live broadcast fans of the show can interact with the hosts Dave and John via internet chat room.

Typical broadcast

A Typical Raider Cast show will begin with Dave announcing the date followed by the episode number. Then they queue the shows opening music which includes sound bites from Oakland Raiders past and present such as Ray Guy in addition to a sound bite from a trailer for the 1997 movie Men In Black.

Once the opening had been completed Dave will typically greet his audience with his catchphrase "What, is, UP! Raider Nation". They (Dave and John) will then explain what will be discussed during the show.

If the previous weeks game was a home game for the Raiders, they will typically play interviews they recorded during the tailgating party before the game. This often includes interviews with well known superfans.

Dave and John will then discuss the positives and the negatives from the previous weeks game (win or lose). This part of the show is often referred to as "The Good and the BAD". They will offer their analysis and suggest what they feel the Raiders should have done.

Once this part of the show has been completed they will often move into the Raider News segment of the show. Raider News comprises Dave reading off all transactions that the Raiders completed over the last week. This includes the signing and releasing of players, placing of players on injured reserve, benching of players, injury updates, charitable work being done by players and or management, and anything else the Raiders have released to the press. Dave and John then discuss the news with interaction from the fans who are there live in the Chat Room. Dave in particular is well known for reading the chat room type on air.

Raider News is then followed by predictions for the next weeks game. John and Dave often voice their opinions about how the Raiders should play and typically offer their "Keys to the Game".

A break usually follows this and a song about the Raiders is played. Typical bands featured include Raiderhed, My Hairy Brother, and Silver and Blackout.

After the break its usually time for the voice/email part of the show. Dave makes it clear that they will read every email they receive on air. Voice mails are usually played first followed by emails. Dave and John (after reading the emails) routinely beg their fans to leave voice mail rather than email which they often find difficult to read.

After this Dave and John typically thank the 66th Mob for all the hard work they do and thank the troops for fighting for Americas Freedom.

Corona

Like many members of the Raider Nation, Dave and John (especially John) are known to drink Corona. They do so during their broadcasts and at all Raider home games. They are renowned for their rather heroic intake of Corona during Raider games which is why they seldom do any interviews after the game as they have been known to reach the point of intoxication.
