Narang Mandi نارنگ منڈی is a small town located in the Muridke Tehsil of Sheikhupura District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is renowned for its good quality rice, which is known throughout Pakistan.

History


Historically Narang Mandi has been on the cross roads of ancient trade routes in Punjab leading to Delhi and other parts of Northern India. Before partition Narang Mondi was called Narang. The word Mondi was added after independence due to the establishment of a big Market (Mandi) of Rice and Rice Processesing. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, because of the cross border tension this trade stature was very much lost. Mr. Muhammad Ghulam Sabir Mughal (1916-1999) is one of the founder of the Narang Mandi, who was born in Gurdaspur a city in the state of Punjab, situated in the northwest part of the of India.

Significance


Narang is a centre of many life facilities for nearby villages. Narang Mondi gained significance due to the top Quality of in the different types of Rice in all over the Pakistan. Though poor infrastructure of broken roads and limited Railways service hampers town development still it is a vibrant town of Kalar area. Basic life facilities like health, education are present. There is hospital with limited health facilities and separate colleges for boys and girls which offer Bachelor degrees affiliated to the University of The Punjab Lahore. There are host of public and private secondary education institutions. If you take the pot holed roads and unreliable power supply in town, away from your mind, Narang offers the beautiful scenery of rice paddy fields and warm and welcoming people who make you laugh with their simple gestures of hospitality. Jutt is the major family living in this area, having many sub-casts.Soroya, Butter, Jathol etc. are important sub-casts of jutt family & Foumas families in Narang Mandi are Sardar Hashim Maan, Khurram Gulfam, Ijaz Sehol, Shahid Bashir & Sajid Bashir Buttar. Mr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya is another prominent personality of the city who received an international award from SLA, USA [1]
