Padri Konkani Movie
Padri is a Konkani movie that was released in 2005. Film Director Rajesh Fernandessaid the high budget (Rs 60 lakh) film was shot at 58 eye catching locations andwoven with seven scintillating songs with 46 actors performing in it. Locations from entirecoastal belt from Kasargod to Goa including Mangalore, Kumta and Honnavar were used in the film.
It all began when Rajesh Fernandes along with Raymond Quadros (producer) duringone of their visits to Goa watched the play (Padri by Prince Jecob). Soon the ideaof turning the play into a movie was born. The unique aspect of the movieis that all the actors and actresses acted on camera for the first time.However, all of them are professional stage artists. The whole movie was filmed without a single indoor shot in 26 days. “In all, it is a package to be viewed bythe entire family with model clippings and modern anecdotes,” Mr Fernandes said.The censor board has given ‘U’ certificate without even a single cut, he added.To a query, he said the language used in the movie is a mixture of Mangalorean andGoan Konkani.
Plot
Savio, Julies and Raegan are three brothers in the film 'Padri'(priest) growing under the tutelage of their sister in law. Savio intends to become a 'Padri', Julius ekes out a living in a business company. Regan is an Engineer.
The sister in law, Anushka, grew up in an aristocratic family and rules the house. Her uncle, Roldhawa, on a short visit, schemes and destroys the family peace. Anushka is an unwitting pawn in her uncle's intrigues.
Cast
The lead role has been played by Newton D’Souza (from Goa) and Arona Fernandes(from Mangalore) while the lyrics have been scripted by Wilfy Rebimbus, musicscored by Papan-Joswin, stunts by Tiger Madhu, cinematography by Elukoti Chandruand story-screenplay-dialogues by Prince Jecob. So far only 20 full scriptKonkani films have been produced including those from Mumbai, Goa and Mangalore.While 9 each have been produced in Karnataka and Goa, one each have beenproduced from Chennai and Mumbai.
