Aralkylamine dehydrogenase

Aralkylamine dehydrogenase

In enzymology, an aralkylamine dehydrogenase (EC number|1.4.99.4) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:RCH2NH2 + H2O + acceptor ightleftharpoons RCHO + NH3 + reduced acceptor

The 3 substrates of this enzyme are RCH2NH2, H2O, and acceptor, whereas its 3 products are RCHO, NH3, and reduced acceptor.

This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-NH2 group of donors with other acceptors. The systematic name of this enzyme class is aralkylamine:acceptor oxidoreductase (deaminating). Other names in common use include aromatic amine dehydrogenase, dehydrogenase, arylamine, tyramine dehydrogenase, aromatic amine dehydrogenase, and aralkylamine:(acceptor) oxidoreductase (deaminating). This enzyme participates in tyrosine metabolism and phenylalanine metabolism.
