Samuel Chapman

Sir Samuel Chapman (1859 – 29 April 1947) was a Scottish Unionist Party politician.

He unsuccessfully contested the Greenock constituency in 1918, but was elected as Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South at the 1922 general election [LondonGazette|issue=32775|startpage=8712|date=8 December 1922|accessdate=2008-04-01] and held the seat [LondonGazette|issue=32897|startpage=368|date=11 January 1924|accessdate=2008-04-01] [LondonGazette|issue=32996|startpage=8534|date=25 November 1924|accessdate=2008-04-01] [LondonGazette|issue=33508|startpage=4117|date=21 June 1929|accessdate=2008-04-01] [LondonGazette|issue=33769|startpage=7146|date=6 November 1931|accessdate=2008-01-10] [LondonGazette|issue=34223|startpage=7506|date=26 November 1935|accessdate=2008-01-10] until he stepped down at the 1945 general election.

He was knighted in the 1920 New Year Honours, for "Valuable War work, especially in connection with the Perth and Perthsire Prisoners of War Fund; Public and Local services". [LondonGazette|issue=31712|supp=yes|startpage=2|date=30 December 1919|accessdate=2008-01-10]
