NFL Field Pass

NFL Field Pass

NFL Field Pass, launched in 2003 [http://www.davideckoff.com/2003/11/nfl_and_the_online_subscriptio.html] was a subscription service from the National Football League that offers streaming live audio of NFL games, along with pre-game and post-game shows. The service was offered through the NFL website and utilized RealPlayer to stream the programs. Previously broadcast programs were archived and available for download to subscribers. NFL Field Pass did not offer live video of football games, only live audio.

Criticism

NFL Field Pass and Real Networks have been criticized for making termination and discontinuation of the service difficult for subscribers who wish to unsubscribe. While users may easily subscribe to the service with a few clicks online, to unsubscribe users must phone Real Networks (866-212-1346). However, the phone line is not open 24 hours a day and the hours of operation for the phone line are not posted by Real Networks or the NFL. Moreover, the "monthly pass" subscription will continue to renew even when the NFL football season is over if the subscriber does not invest the time to phone Real Networks to unsubscribe.
