Allende family

The Allende family of Chile is of Basque origin, and became well-known during the 19th century but only influential in the 20th. It has played a very significant role in Chilean politics. Its most prominent members are:

*Ramón Allende Padín (1845-1884), physician and politician, chief of the Chilean Army Medical Corps during the War of the Pacific (1879-1884)
*Salvador Allende Gossens (1908-1973), President of Chile (1970-1973)
*Laura Allende Gossens (1911-1981), sister of Salvador Allende, politician
*Hortensia Bussi de Allende (b. 1914), wife to Salvador Allende, First Lady of Chile
*Denise Pascal Allende (b. 1940), niece of Salvador Allende, politician
*Beatriz Allende Bussi (1943-1977), daughter of Salvador Allende, revolutionary
*Isabel Allende Llona (b. 1942), cousin of Salvador Allende, best-seller writer
*Andrés Pascal Allende (b. 1943), nephew of Salvador Allende, revolutionary and terrorist
*Isabel Allende Bussi (b. 1945), daughter of Salvador Allende, politician
*Juan Allende Llona, associate professor of Political Science at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia
