Cirrus Airlines Luftfahrtgesellschaft mbH is an airline based in Saarbrücken, Germany. It operates both charter and scheduled flights, the latter on behalf of Lufthansa and Swiss International Air Lines. Its main base and hub is Saarbrücken Airport, Germany.^[1]

History

Cirrus was founded in February 1995 as Cirrus Luftfahrtgesellschaft mbH and operated an executive charter business. In March 1998, Cirrus Airlines received its licence to operate scheduled services between Saarbrücken Airport and Hamburg. In August 1999, Cirrus took over the route from Mannheim to Berlin Tempelhof from Cosmos Air.

An important step was taken in February 2000, upon the 5th anniversary of Cirrus Airlines, when it established a cooperative partnership with German owned Lufthansa and became a Team Lufthansa franchise member. In April that year, Cirrus received licences to operate regularly scheduled service between Mannheim City Airport and Hamburg Airport and between Berlin and Sylt. From 2001 onwards, Cirrus steadily expanded its business, with scheduled services opening between Saarbrücken and Berlin Tempelhof (March 2001), between Berlin Tempelhof and Heringsdorf on the island of Usedom (May 2002), between Rostock and Munich (May 2002), between Leipzig and Zürich (January 2003), between Leipzig and Hamburg (January 2003), between Dresden and Hamburg (March 2003), between Frankfurt and Skopje, Macedonia (April 2003), between Leipzig and Cologne (May 2003), between Frankfurt and Ohrid (June 2003), between Mannheim and Dresden (March 2004), between Dresden and Zürich (April 2004), between Mannheim and Olbia (May 2004) and between Munich and London City (May 2004), between Mannheim and Munich (September 2008).

Cirrus Airlines is a company of Aviation Investment Corp. including Cirrus Maintenance, Cirrus Service and nana tours. The group is operating 11 aircraft and has over 400 employees (at January 2011)^{[citation needed]}. The company introduced a modified corporate identity in January 2008.

• Domestic scheduled destinations: Berlin Brandenburg Airport [begins 3 June 2012], Berlin Tegel Airport [ends 2 June 2012], Dresden, Frankfurt, Erfurt [ends 23 December], Hamburg, Mannheim, Munich, Münster, Hof, Stuttgart, Zweibrücken.

• International scheduled destinations: Berne, Salzburg and Zürich.

Embraer ERJ-170 is only for charter operations. Since November 14, 2011, Adria Airways is operating for Cirrus Airlines with one CRJ200LR plane on routes from Dresden to Hamburg and Zurich. Many of the Dornier 328-100 planes were sold. Note that Dornier 328-300 (Jet) are in VIP configuration and are operating within DC Aviation.
