Matt Thackston

Matt Thackston is a singer/songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee where he lives with his wife, Celine, and his blind cat, Mr. Lawrence. His first album, "Better Than Here", has been praised in such notable publications as "Music Row" magazine and "CMT.com".

Background and influences

Thackston grew up in the small town of Eden, North Carolina, which is referred to in his song "It Was Our Town" on the "Better Than Here" album. Thackston wrote his first song at the age of 14. He attended Appalachian State University, where he was awarded a degree in music.

When Thackston was 16, he saw the "MTV Unplugged" performance from Melissa Etheridge and Bruce Springsteen. This is what he claims inspired him to pick up guitar and dedicate his life to music. His influences include Jackson Browne, Paul Simon and the Indigo Girls. Thackston also credits a great deal of his success to his friend, Matt Cameron, who more or less taught him how to rock. Quotes about Matt Thackston

Matt Thackston/It Was Our Town
Great, heartfelt singing, plus earthy, poetic songwriting. The punchy production features searing electric guitar, rippling mandolin and taut drumming. If Matt doesn't have a hit with it, Kenny Chesney needs to hear his song pronto. Who IS this guy?
