John Chew Hiang Chea

John Chew Hiang Chea _zh. (周贤正大主教) is currently the third Metropolitan Archbishop and Primate of the Province of Anglican Church in South East Asia as well as the Bishop of Singapore.

He was consecrated and enthroned as the 8th Bishop of Singapore by the then Archbishop of the South East Asian Province and Bishop of Sabah, The Most Reverend Datuk Yong Ping Chung on the 25th of April, 2000 at the St Andrew's Cathedral. His consecration service was attended by DPM Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, Dignitaries, Bishops from the various Dioceses and religious leaders.

On 5th of February, 2006, Bishop John Chew was installed as the 3rd Archbishop of the Province of Anglican Church in South East Asia as Archbishop Yong Ping Chung reached his retirement age. Representatives of the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Right Reverend Jonathan Gledhill,The Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Singapore, The Most Reverend Monsignor Nicholas Chia, the Bishop of the Methodist Church in Singapore, Dr Robert M Solomon and MP Jurong GRC, Dr Ong Chit Chung, dignitaries, Bishops,priests and fellow Anglicans were among those who graced this solemn and joyous occasion.

St Andrew's Cathedral is where "cathedra" of the Bishop is and the Cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore.

Archbishop John Chew is married to Christina and they have a son.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Diocese of Singapore which belongs to the category of ecclesiastical heraldry, consists of a Mitre surmounted on a St Andrew's Shield. The Mitre symbolises Apostolic Authority and Divine Endorsement to govern the anglican diocese in the region. The Crozier symbolises the Bishop's Episcopate and the Key represents the access to heaven. Emblazoned upon the St Andrew's Shield are four bunches of wheat symbolising the harvest fields which God has entrusted to the Diocese.
