Breast Cancer Action

Breast Cancer Action is a national grassroots education and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting people living with [breast cancer] and encouraging the support of breast cancer research and awareness. Based in San Francisco, BCA is perhaps best known for its Think Before You Pink campaign, which encourages consumers to ask six critical questions before buying a pink ribbon product. Think Before You Pink was launched in 2002.

BCA's mission is "to carry the voices of people affected by breast cancer to inspire and compel the changes necessary to end the epidemic."

The organization undertakes three primary tasks: - Provides information via newsletter, web site, monthly E-Alert, and phone number. - Organizes activities - Advocates for policy changes directed at achieving prevention through understanding and eliminating the causes of breast cancer; working toward a cure with less toxic treatments; and providing universal access to quality health care.

History

Breast Cancer Action was founded in 1990 by Elenore Pred, Susan Claymon, and Linda Reyes.
