† Appearances (Goals).Matthew Thomas "Matt" Hamshaw (born 1 January 1982) is an English professional footballer who is currently playing for Macclesfield Town. He has previously played for Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County, Mansfield Town and Notts County. He usually plays on the right side of midfield. He was released by Mansfield in May 2008 and signed for Notts County on a two-year contract on 27 June. He is married to Kerry, and they have a daughter, Isabella, born in 2008. Their son Liam, born in 2007, was stillborn.
Career
Born in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, Hamshaw came through the youth system at Sheffield Wednesday[1] and represented England at schoolboy and under 18 level.[2] He made his first-team debut in August 2000[3] and made 89 appearances, scoring six goals, in four seasons.[4] After Sheffield Wednesday won the Football League One play-off final in May 2005, he was one of several players released by manager Paul Sturrock[5] and joined Stockport County,[6] where he was made captain and made 44 first-team appearances, scoring five goals in the 2005–06 season.[4] He was released by Stockport at the end of the 2005–06 season,[7] and signed a two-year contract with Mansfield Town in June 2006.[8] After Mansfield Town were relegated to the Conference National at the end of the 2007–08 season, he was released by the club.[9] Hamshaw had made over 90 appearances in all competitions for Mansfield Town. On 10 May 2010 it was announced that he had been released by Notts County along with 7 other players.
On 26 July he signed for Macclesfield Town on a one year deal.[10] On 18 May 2011 he signed a further one year extension contract at Macclesfield Town.[11]
