"Goosebumps" is a Canadian children's television series that aired on YTV in Canada, on Canal Famille in Québec, Fox Kids in the United States from 1995 to 1998, and airs around Halloween on Cartoon Network as of 2007 and on Jetix in Europe. "Goosebumps" is a horror anthology series for children, based on the "Goosebumps" books by R. L. Stine (who also hosts the show on some occasions), and its spinoffs "Goosebumps 2000", and "Goosebumps: 10 Tales to...". The television series was produced by Hyperion Pictures, and Protocol Entertainment. it's with association with Scholastic Corporation. It is also Internationally Distributed by Saban International Outside North America. Scifi veteran David Winning directed "It Came from Beneath the Sink" in the first season.

Production

The episodes are a half-hour long and were for low budget productions. The episode opening would have a man in all black carrying a briefcase (R.L. Stine himself in a cameo appearance) lose all of his papers, which would then float around on the wind through a small town, spreading a shadowy G logo(the Goosebumps logo) around and causing evil things to happen, like a woman in a billboard becomes drab and depressed and a dog on a porch suddenly has evil glowing eyes (this one became the symbol for Goosebumps on Fox Kids). Several actors portray different roles; Scott Wickware, Corey Sevier, Ron Stefaniuk and John White are the most popular, each featured in at least 5 episodes.

The show ran for three full-length seasons, and an eight-episode fourth season; totaling 74 episodes. In total, forty-three of the original books were adapted, while an original sequel episode titled "More Monster Blood" was produced as an alternative to three of the remaining 19 books. Also of note is the lack of a "Night of the Living Dummy" adaptation, despite three of its four sequels being adapted, as Slappy was not present for most of the first novel. Similarly, "Return of the Mummy" was adapted for the show, but its immediate predecessor "The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb" was not.

In the third season, at which point the series' title was changed to "The Ultimate Goosebumps", nine short stories from the "Tales to Give Yourself Goosebumps" anthologies were adapted into ten episodes (including a two-partner, "Perfect School"). Also included was the original "Chillogy", a three-partner made exclusively for the show. "Cry of the Cat" and "Bride of the Living Dummy" became the only adaptations from the "Goosebumps 2000" spin-off series. The show won many awards.

Cartoon Network gained the rerun rights to the show (despite the fact that it was not a cartoon), and showed it starting in October 2007, incorrectly billed as a "new series". This was presumably done for Halloween, but the series continued to run on the network long after the holiday.Goosebumps will return to Cartoon Network on Sunday on October 5th, then will air Ultimate Goosebumps episodes Mondays through Thursdays.
