Lee State Natural Area

Lee State Natural Area

Lee State Natural Area is one of South Carolina's first state parks. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression of the 1930s as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Lee State Park as it was originally known is situated along the banks of the Lynches River.

The park is open to visitors year round for activities like camping, hiking, nature walks, horseback riding and fishing. The park also has a boardwalk into the wetlands. You can venture out onto this boardwalk and see a habitat that is otherwise very difficult to get to. Wildlife abounds at this park. Many visitors are treated to sights of white-tail deer, herons and egrets, warblers and reptiles and amphibians like yellow-bellied turtles and spring peepers.
