Please note: methodology may vary year on year. Darwen railway station serves Darwen, a medium sized Lancashire town. It is served by Northern Rail services on the Ribble Valley Line from Manchester Victoria/Bolton to Blackburn and into Clitheroe. The station is 7 km (4¼ miles) south of Blackburn and has two platforms - it is one of only two passing points on the Blackburn to Bolton part of the route, although trains only normally cross during the morning and evening peak periods.
Darwen is set amongst the remarkable countryside and rugged hills of East Lancashire. The station has a regular service from Blackburn. Arriving from/departing towards Bolton involves journeying through the long Sough Tunnel, some 2015 yards (1,833 m) in length.
Facilities
The station is unstaffed, despite the size of the town it serves and its usage (see right). There are plans to build a new booking office on the Manchester-bound platform, but this is subject to funding.
Services
There is generally an hourly service daily to Clitheroe and Blackburn northbound and Manchester Victoria southbound with extra trains during peak hours.
