General information

Name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old Nesna farm (Old Norse: Nesnar), since the first church was built there.[2] The name is derived from the word nes which means "headland".

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 23 June 1989. The arms are a canting of the name of the municipality because they show a "headland" or peninsula surrounded by water. (Norwegian: nes).
