Open Air was BBC1's flagship programme for their new daytime service which began on 27 October 1986. In 1987 an additional early morning episode was added, following the end of Breakfast Time, to help promote and inform viewers what topics will be covered in the main edition.

Open Air was similarity Channel 4 programme Right To Reply as it discuses all aspect of television and also tried to answerer any questions any viewers had. Unlike Right to reply, open air went out live on a daily basic and have live phone ins. The series covered all television channel and would often have programme markers and television management better explain their actions. Open Air ended in 1990 after 4 series.
