Nickelodeon India (or Nick India) is a television channel devoted to children in India based in Mumbai. It is part of Viacom 18. Nick India is a 24-hour English pay channel, with the option of an Hindi audio feed on direct-broadcast satellite. Nick India is an arm of Nickelodeon (USA).

History

Nickelodeon India was first started in 1999 by Viacom 18.[1]

When the channel was launched, it aired mostly original programs. Few of them are Klasky Csupo programs, like Rugrats, Aaahh! Real Monsters, As told by Ginger, Rocket Power, The Wild Thornberrys and other animated shows like The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers, Catdog, Hey Arnold!, The Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom. The network used to air live action shows as well, such as Kenan & Kel, Drake and Josh, Clarissa Explains It All, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Nick Bites and lots more. Recently, Nickelodeon is becoming more diverse from all of its international counterparts. The network continuously airs Nicktoon shows while broadcasting locally made shows and acquired ones from all over the world.

Viacom 18 formed a joint venture with India's Television 18 in 2007, bringing motion pictures and other programming to India. This included the production of local programming, such as Nickelodeon India.[2] The venture involved an investment of $90.5 million by Television 18.[3]

Programming

Nick India contains a lot of cartoon programmes that appeal to children such as SpongeBob SquarePants. Besides that, educational shows for toddlers like Dora The Explorer are featured in Nick India's pre-school block, Nick Jr. Anime are the main featured in Nickelodeon. The 2004 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards was aired "exclusively on Nickelodeon India".[4]

Nickelodeon India has not broadcast new programmes. Fanboy and Chum Chum, Fairly Odd Parents, TUFF Puppy and live shows like iCarly, House of Anubis and Big Time Rush. Fairly Odd Parents used to come on Nick India but it has been cancelled[citation needed]. Nickelodeon India is now airing Power Rangers Mystic Force, but only refers to it as a general series brand. However, pictures and descriptions of Power Rangers Samurai are shown on Nick India's website.

Late Night Shows

These shows are shows which do not include in the Nick India's day list. But these shows come late night. However, these shows have been kept to prevent TVC brand products from showing. Pick a Trick, SpongeBob Squarepants and The Penguins of Madagascar are shows which comes in Nick India's schedule and comes in Late Night Shows too.

Nick at Nite

Nick at Nite has not launched yet. The planned release was on July 31, 2010, but it was delayed indefinitely.

Nick Jr.

Nick Jr. is a preschool block that airs on Nickelodeon. Nick Jr. is currently airing reruns of Dora the Explorer.

Nick Home Cinema

Nick Home Cinema started from summer 2007. Originally it started by airing Nickelodeon movies for 3 months. The movies were Drake & Josh Go Hollywood, Drake & Josh: Really Big Shrimp, The Journey of Allen Strange etc. But it also aired movies made by or released in theatres by other networks, like Stuart Little, Spymate, Air Buddies 1 2 3 etc. In September 2011, Singh is Kinng was the newest movie that appeared in this block. At present, It is the movie block of Nickelodeon India, and is broadcast every Sundays on the channel, with different movies each week, mostly being of Hindi Language.

Now Nick has decided to change Nick Home Cinema As Nickelodeon Movies where on 11 November 2011, they are going to put The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn in the nearest theaters.
