History

Dawnstar were formed by Tico (vocals/guitars), Bálint (bass), and Viktor (drums) in Budapest, Hungary in 2000[1]. The early sound of the band was influenced by the grunge revolution from Seattle. Later the band mixed the Pink Floyd's psychedelia with more modern sounds like post-punk and garage rock. In addition, the effect of the bands associated with Madchester and Joy Division is undeniable.

After some concerts in local clubs in Budapest, they were invited to play at The Ecofest Festival in Budapest, Hungary in 2005[2][3][4]. The band was invited due to their lyrics influenced by fast-spreading anti-globalisation.

Their first EP, entitled 'Change The World', was released on November 30, 2007. 'Change The World' calls upon the people to do against the spreading globalisation. 'Don't Die A Martyr For Me' deals with the pointlessness of war. 'Scarlet' reveals the hopeless life of a young girl in the streets of Budapest. Their first single was critically acclaimed by the NANE (Women's Rights Association) and peace organisations like the Hungarian Amnesty International. In 2009 Dawnstar was invited to play at the Austrian anti-globalist Donaukanaltreiben Festival[5].
