Croes yn Eirias

Croes yn Eirias

Groes yn Eirias is the name of a Welsh hamlet in the Colwyn Bay area. Groes yn Eirias means Cross in Torch. There is a large area of Colwyn Bay called Eirias Park there and an ancient road from Eirias to the hilltop village of Llanelian called Groes Road. It is believed but not confirmed that the catholic martyr Blessed William Davies was born at Groes yn Eirias in 1555. Nothing is left of the original hamlet and the area is now referred to as the Glyn estate. The Glyn farm house dating to circa 1640 still exists as three private dwellings.
