Coke Studio is a Pakistani television series featuring live music performances. Although it is adapted from the original Brazilian show named Estúdio Coca-Cola, it is fundamentally different from the original version where the show was a concert style show whereas the Pakistani version records its shows inside a closed studio . The program focuses on a fusion of the diverse musical influences in Pakistan, including eastern classical, folk, and contemporary popular music. The show provides a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists, from various genres and regions, to collaborate musically in live studio recording sessions.[1] It is one of the most popular music programmes in Asia and is a brand product of Coca-Cola.

Season One premiered on June 8, 2008 and included a live audience. Season Two premiered on June 14, 2009 without a live audience, eliminating the associated background noise and providing a more intimate atmosphere.[2]

Coke Studio has been popular, receiving critical acclaim and frequently being rebroadcast on television and radio in Pakistan. The official Facebook Coke Studio page has more than 881,000 fans.[3][4][5][1]

Video and MP3 files for each song are available for download on the Coke Studio website after each episode airs, along with additional material. The videos are also available on Youtube, which have frequently been viewed and commented on, with the official posting of Alif Allah viewed over 400,000 times in the first five weeks and it reached 5 million exactly one year later, when the fourth season was all set to be aired.[6]

Coke Studio is now an international franchise that was first launched in Pakistan. Coke Studio is produced by Rohail Hyatt, of Vital Signs (band) fame, and his wife Umber Hyatt in 2008. It featured artists on each episode are backed by a house band and guest artists.[7]
