Sharon D. Ross (February 27, 1960 – ) is an American expressionist painter and printmaker. She was the last accepted member into the long standing
North Windsor Artists , an artists' group established in the 1970's and continues to this day. North Windsor Artists included John S. Darling, recognized and renowned regional artist in King George Virginia. Darling, named "the guru" by the many artists who studied under him, called William Franklin Draper and Allen Ingles Palmer two of his closest friends. Darling was not only co-founder of North Windsor Artists, but also Great Uncle to Ross.Ross was born in Los Angeles, California but was bi-coastal most of her life living between California and New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in applied Mathematics from
SUNY Old Westbury and went on to get her Masters in clinical art therapy atLoyola Marymount before shifting fields to painting. Her studies brought her around the world.Ross focuses on abstract and abstracted work. Her greatest breakthrough was seen in her "TinkerToy Series," the influence of which can be seen in future series, including her figurative works. Ross works primarily in oil and enamel with a physical approach to the surface. She also works in printmaking with monotypes and woodcuts. Her goal is for the paint to speak before the image.
Ross is a member of the North Windsor Artists, is co-founder of North Windsor Gallery at LibertyTown in historical Fredericksburg, was co-founder of Blue Door Studio in Fredericksburg, is founder of Art Speaks Gallery. Ross continues to be a member of King George Art Guild, founded by North Windsor Artists, created to promote the arts in King George, Virginia and to provide scholarship funds for High School Art Students to pursue the arts.
