Det. Rene Sheppard is a fictional police detective of the Baltimore Police Department on , She was played by Michael Michele. At 29, Sheppard first appeared in Season 7. Rene was Miss Anne Arundel County (beauty pageant queen) sometime prior to joining the Baltimore Police Department. She came into the Homicide Section from the Escape and Apprehension Section (Fugitive Squad) and quickly worked hard to prove that she is a capable and dependable homicide investigator. She did win the confidence of her peers and superiors within the Homicide Section. She was often partnered with either Detective Lewis or Bayliss whom she generally got along well with. At one point she dated Det. Bayliss and even considered marrying him.
