Pol Clovis Boël

Baron Pol-Clovis Boël (2 August 1868 – 13 July 1941) was a Belgian industrialist, Director of the "Usines Gustave Boël" in La Louvière, and liberal politician.

Born in Saint-Vaast, he was a son of Gustave Boël. He was married with Marthe de Kerchove de Denterghem and their daughter Marie-Anne Boël, was married with Charles-Emmanuel Janssen, while their daughter Eva Boël (1883-1956), was married with Felix Goblet d'Alviella. Their son, René Boël (1899-1990), was married with Yvonne Solvay (1896-1930). Pol-Clovis died in Brussels.

Career

When Gustave Boël died in 1912, Pol-Clovis, one of his sons, continued with the diversification of the family business. He diversified in particular in chemistry with the "Société anonyme de fabrication des engrais azoté" (Safea) (nitrate fertilizers). Pol-Clovis also invested in UCB of Emmanuel Janssen and in Solvay of Ernest Solvay. In 1928, simultaneously with the factories, Pol-Clovis Boël created a financial entity: "l'Union financière Boël", ancestor of several financial holdings, such as Sofina, Henex, Moustier. During the interbellum Boël enters the world of the Belgian finance, with taking participations in the Bank of Brussels and the Société Générale de Belgique. In 1929, king Albert I of Belgium granted the title of baron to Pol-Clovis Boël.
