Church Mission to the Jews

Church Mission to the Jews

The Church's Ministry Among Jewish People. is the current name for the 'London Society for the Promotion of Christianity Amongst the Jews. 'At the turn of the 18th Century into the 19th Century there was an increase in what is now termed "Evangelicalism" in England. One of the best known groups of Evangelicals was the Clapham Sect. Among its members were William Wilberforce and the Earl of Shaftesbury. In 1809 it was decided that ther was an unmet need to share the Good News of Jesus the Jewish Messiah with Jewish people.A group of men formed the London Society for the Promotion of Christianity Amongst the Jews. This tongue twisting name became commonly the London Jews' Society. Over the years the "street" name has varied; the Society is now know as The Church's Ministry Among Jewish People.
