* Supreme Court of India stuck down the 22 years old Assam migrants act. The court stated that "“If an act has the disaster effect of giving shelter and protection to foreign nationals who have illegally transgressed the international border and resided in India, the act is unconstitutional”. The ruling party in Assam Indian National Congress suffered a major blow as it tried hard to support the act. Other parties including Bharatiya Janta Party praised the end of an act, which they held responsible for the influx of Bangladeshi migrants into Assam.
