- Fauna of Kosovo
The fauna of Kosovo is influenced by the geographical position and conditions of
Kosovo , which suit many rare animals. In the fields and hilly areas there areboar ,deer ,rabbit s ,raven s,magpie s,starling s, fieldsparrow s,woodpecker s andturtle dove s.In the mountainous regions there are field
partridge s,quail s,pheasant s,squirrel s,stork s, and many numerous species ofeagle s,vulture s,hawk s etc. The rare animals include the European brown bear, wolves, roe deer, lynx, wild and forest hen grouse. The bear is mainly found in theŠar Mountains and in theProkletije or Albanian Alps. The high mountains in Kosovo make it ideal for many animals to live in.In the rivers and lakes there are salmon, trout, scuba, eel, gudgeon, catfish, carp, torpedo and small herring.
Kosovo also has its own dog breed called the
Šarplaninac which is kept by the majority ofAlbanians living in Kosovo, Western part of theRepublic of Macedonia andAlbania .
