Alan Hardwick (born 20 August 1949, Staveley) is an English television presenter based in Lincolnshire.

Early life

He was the son of a Derbyshire coal miner, living on "Chesterfield Road" in Staveley. He attended Netherthorpe Grammar School in the town.

Broadcasting career

Newspapers

In his early years, Alan Hardwick was a reporter with "Derbyshire Times" in 1965, although initially started out at "Swallows" outfitters in Chesterfield where he was introduced to the paper's news editor who was buying a suit. One of his first stories he covered was the death of the colleague at the outfitters who made the introduction, who had since died in a car accident. He then was a sub-editor with "Wiltshire Gazette and Herald" in Swindon in 1969 then moving onto being a news editor for "Lincolnshire Chronicle" which also at one time employed Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin as a journalist. He was then a district editor for "Faversham News", Kent. Then moving onto being a sub-editor and sports editor for Scarborough Evening News.

Television

From August 20 1973 - 2002 he was a senior journalist, presenter, producer, and director with Yorkshire Television. He had first met YTV when covering a story at Butlins in Filey, when their presenter being taxied in a helicopter was unable to attend due to the weather, so he was co-opted into becoming an honorary YTV presenter for that night's broadcast. Then in 2002 - 2003 he was a presenter of his own daily news/current affairs programme, on Radio Lincolnshire. From 2003 - present he has been a self-employed voice-over artist and PR consultant. Alan recently set up his own website, East Coast Television - his idea is to create a web based television service specialising in general interest programmes.
