Rollerball (fictional sport)

Rollerball is a very violent, full contact, fictional sport first featured in the 1975 film of the same name. It is often described as a mix-up of american football, roller derby, motocross and hockey.

Rules

Rollerball is played on a circular track that is approx. 50 by 50 ft. in diameter, with a smaller circle in the middle of the track that contains medical workers, mechanics, referees and a "Controller", who sits in a rotating chair and controls many occurrences in the game.

A rollerball team usually consists of 4 skaters, 3 catchers and 3 bikers. Catchers are like skaters only they have a glove reminiscent of a baseball mit, which they use to catch the ball. After this is done, they pass it on to one of the skaters. The skaters are the ones who score the goals by trying to get the ball into a magnetic goal. The bikers ride motorcycles that skaters or catchers may grab onto and ride by grabbing a loop that hangs behind the motorcycle, which causes them to usually gain speed.

The ball is a steel metal sphere, about the size of a normal softball. It is fired onto the track by a cannon the opposite direction of which the skaters go. When fired, the ball can reach speeds of up to 140 mph.
