Hibernian F.C. in Europe

Hibernian have a significant history in European competitions. The club was the first British club to enter European competition [ [http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article545013.ece European Union] "The Times", July 17 2005] , the European Cup in its first season.

Hibs have lost on four occasions to the club that went on to win the competition [Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1960-61; Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1962-63; Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1967-68; UEFA Cup 1975-76] , and have themselves reached the quarter-final of the competition they were entered in on five occasions [European Cup 1955-56; Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1960-61; Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1962-63; Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1967-68; UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 1972-73] .
