Claire Loux

Claire Finkle Loux (13 January 1919 - 13 April 2000) was an American songwriter and poet. She was born in Anaconda, Montana, the 4th child of Dutch-born Mijntje (Minnie) Boel and American-born William Warren Finkle. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Rensselaer, New York. As a young girl, while on summer holiday with her family relatives, Clara had a serendipitous encounter with the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay at the Austerlitz, New York post office. Millay encouraged Clara to pursue her dreams in poetry. Clara married residential housing contractor Joseph A. Loux at her family's residence in Albany, New York on 5 November 1938 and moved to Delmar, a suburb of Albany. In later life she was a real estate broker in Delmar. She died in 2000 and was buried in the Loux family plot in Graceland Cemetery, Albany, New York.
