SM Makati also known as Shoemart Makati or SM Department Store Makati is a shopping mall owned by the SM Group and managed by SM Prime Holdings. It is located at Ayala Center, cor EDSA, Makati City near Glorietta Mall. It opened in 1967 and was relaunched in the year 2004. It is the 2nd SM Department Store ever built by Henry Sy Sr.. It features anchors like the SM Supermarket and the obviously the SM Department Store. The mall was relaunched in 2004 and featured anchors like Ace Hardware, Toy Kingdom, Surplus Shop and Watsons Drugstore.

History

After the success of Henry Sy Sr. of Shoemart in Quiapo, Manila, He expanded his shoe business in the 1960's and opened another shoe store in the commercial district of Makati in the year 1967. At this year, A significant change happened when the name Shoemart, abbreviated into SM, evolved into a fully air-conditioned department store and has become the most successful branch so far. The SM Logo deemed as more universal and has become the most recognizable brands in the Philippines. In 2004, The SM Department Store in Makati was renovated and expanded with an annex building and it becomes a shopping mall.
