The Uruguay Football League (UFL), previously known as UFFF and later UXFFF, was created by a staff of four people, who had the idea of playing flag football, before the league evolved into tackle football. The sport was introduced to Uruguay by a group of Marines from the U.S. Embassy, and the support of the American business Riddell, Inc. Popularity in the sport had been generated by rebroadcasts of NFL games over ESPN in Uruguay. The league currently has five teams: Barbarians, Bulldogs, Celtas (Celts), Emperadores (Emperors), and Sharks.
