Movilla High School is a controlled, co-educational day high school with a five form entry situated on the Donaghadee Road in Newtownards in the South Eastern Education and Library Board area. The school provides classroom and practical facilities in all departments and does not have any temporary classrooms. Committed to providing learning and practice at the forefront of educational development, the school is striving to creating an inclusive learning environment. Mrs C. Karyiannis BA BEd MEd has been principal since September 2009. Along with Mrs Karyiannis is Mr I Bell the school's Vice-Principal who has been an active roll in Movilla for approx 19 years. He has also filled in as Acting Principal on numerous occasions.
Pastoral Structure
Each one of the school's pupils is assigned to one of the four Houses: Victoria, Londonderry, Castle or Glen. Pupils attend House assemblies, taken by the Head of House, wears a house ties and competes in various inter-house competitions which can be sporting or non-sporting.
In the news
In October 2008 25 teachers at the school took industrial action over an incident of a pupil assaulting a member of the school's teaching staff.[1]
