Dennis Crockett is an art historian at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.

Early years

Dennis Crockett was born and raised in New York City, New York. Dr. Crockett received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida in 1983, his Master of Arts from Queens College in 1985, and his Ph.D. from the City University of New York in 1993.[1] Dr. Crockett is married to Susan Babilon, a professor of German language at Whitman College. They have two sons; the youngest appeared in Seussical the Musical in 2008 at Walla Walla High School.[2]

Academic career

Dr. Crockett is a professor at Whitman College.[3] He is the author of the acclaimed book German Post-Expressionism: The Art of the Great Disorder 1918-1924 (Penn State Press, 1999).[4] The book "is the first study to reconstruct historically the evolution of Die neue Sachlichkeit, the slogan coined as a designation for the Post-Expressionist figural art that developed throughout Germany following the failed revolution of 1919."[5] Dr. Crockett joined the Whitman community in 1992. He is now an Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Culture Studies, and Chair of the department. In 2000 Dr. Crockett was awarded the Arnold L. and Lois S. Graves Award to study anti-Prussian art in Germany.[6]
