Sergei Scurfield

Sergei S. Scurfield, B.Comm., L.LB. (born February 3 1962), is a member of the Law Society of Alberta [http://www.lawsocietyalberta.com/membersearch/index.cfm] , and a Director of Sunshine Village Corporation. The 5th child of Ralph and Sonia Scurfield, he is a member of the Haskayne School of Business Management Advisory Council. In 1997 he ran as the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the riding of Calgary West.

Early life and education

Scurfield was born and schooled in Calgary, Alberta. Following his high school education, Scurfield started with the Toronto-Dominion Bank as a management trainee in 1979. After one year he left to take a music-engineering course at the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio. Upon completion of this course, Scurfield returned to Alberta and worked for three years as a production assistant at ITV, a television station in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1985, following the unexpected death of his father, Ralph T. Scurfield, Sergei returned to Calgary to study at the University of Calgary, earning a Bachelor of Commerce in 1989. After graduation, Sergei founded Ninga Software Corporation, a software publishing company that marketed entertainment and home productivity computer programs. Between 1990 and 1999, Ninga Software successfully launched several software programs including "The Wedding Planner" and "World Champion Backgammon". In 1999, Ninga Software was sold, allowing Scurfield to return to academia to study law, earning a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary in 2003. Scurfield was admitted into the Law Society of Alberta in 2004.
