Musashino University (武蔵野大学 Musashino Daigaku ) is an institution of higher education located in Nishitōkyō, Tokyo. The Musashino University is uniquely focused on the ideals which are associated with the Hongwanji Jodo Shinshu School of Buddhism.[1]
Contents
History
Musashino Womens University was founded by Dr. Junjiro Takakusu (1866-1945), an internationally known Buddhist scholar. The institution was to be based on the principles of "Buddhist-based human education." Dr. Takakusu was a progressive thinker who stressed women's education and involvement in society. The Japanese government conferred the Order of Culture on Takakusu in 1944.[1]

The university has expanded in size and scope in the period since its founding in the early years of the 20th century.
