ShipServ is a software and
information technology services company located inLondon ,UK .ShipServ was founded in 1999 by
Paul Ostergaard on the idea of using the Internet to enable maritime shipping companies to improve the buying of ship supplies and spares. In its early days ShipServ was a member of theMaritime E-Commerce Association (MECA) , the not-for-profit organisation that established the MTML (Marine Trading Mark-up Language) standard. In May 2008, according to its website, the company numbered 110 buying organizations as customers, connecting them with 7,000 suppliers, totaling around $1bn in trading per annum.
In 2006 ShipServ launched [http://www.shipserv.com/pages ShipServ Pages] - an on-line global directory of ship suppliers.
The company is privately owned, and venture backed. In 2007 the company gained a further round of funding from [http://www.wellington-partners.com Wellington Partners] , and increased its workforce from 50 to nearly 120 people. The company has operations in 9 countries, with its largest office being in Manila, The Philippines.
